Noisy Ceiling Fan

Got an intermittent knocking coming from my bedroom ceiling fan at low speed. No noise at high speed. Manufacturer's not on build list and I haven't taken it down yet to see if I can fix. If not fixable, the Mrs wants it replaced. Can the replacement fan be bought at Lowe's or Home Depot? Or is there something special about a RV ceiling fan? Thanks.

Many (but not all) ceiling fans are 12 volt which won't be available at Lowes/HomeDepot

Had one knocking on high speed ...turned out that bushings were bad. As the manufacturer had problems with them. The fan was replaced under warranty.

I don't know about repairing a 12V fan, but here is a link to a new one for $159.

Bedroom/Living Room : CEILING FAN 12VDC

and another for $140

Hope this helps.

They are both made by the same manufacturer. I had trouble with my first one as one of the internal magnets had shifted (during manufacturering and rubbed against the armature). The second unit has worked for 2 years. We love it when dry camping. Donít buy from http://www.jrvproductsinc.com/ as they wonít support warrantee repairs etc. I contacted the manufacturer in Hong Kong and he replaced the first unit.
I used the 12volt power from a ceiling vent and ran the wires back under the ceiling material to the fan.

Richard,

Had a similar thing with ours. I turns out the nut holding the fan on was loose. Sounds fine now.

are the blades tight? how about the motor nut? is your fan 12v? if it is 12v does it make the same noise in fwd and reverse? because the noise is intermittent, it could be the motor brushes moving in their brush holders. running the fan in the opposite direction for several hours may help.

Thanks to all you posted replies. Found running it in reverse for several hours cured the problem . . . for now!
