The landing and two steps inside our entrance is a hard vinyl material.

I would like to install some material to make it less slippery.

I prefer to avoid drilling holes so would want to use velcro strips for fastening and removal of the material.

Camping World sells some tread rugs.

But first I need to ask the experts what solutions you have successfully used?

Home Depot and Lowes sell non-skid strips that stick on. I haven't used them, but I'd give them a try. My coach has a wrap-around astro-turf type mat that is secured with strong springs under the step. I only recently purchased the coach and this came with it, so I don't know source.

I installed the wraparound step rugs from Camping World. They attached using springs. Been on there for 1.5 yrs and still working great.

I also have used the wrap around step cover as well as the Velcro attached inside step covers made of carpet and comes in a runner kit as I recall.

We use non-skid on the exterior steps - only.

Like the OP mentions, our landing and 2 inside steps have step rugs...acts like a second door mat and is nicer to look at.

Easy Velcro mounts make the indoor/outdoor material easy to clean.

BTW - be sure to clean the vinyl entry steps really well (alcohol wipes?) so the stick-on Velcro strips stay-put.

Dean, depends on the level of gripping you want... I use skateboard griptape, similar to above mentioned HD and Lowes non-skid strips but much higher gripping and wider and longer in size, for my quickie steps. It is fantastic and will not peel off. You may find it in skateboard shops or ebay.

you can buy stick on non skid that is made for boats. I would get something like that for my outside steps. Since it is made for a marine application the glue is going to be waterproof.

Thanks all, I have just purchased new non-skid tape to replace the old on the outside steps.

Before purchasing something from CW for the inside, I was hoping to get a better result from the ideas here.

How do they look on your inside steps? To they stick and hold well on the current step covering?

I used some outdoor carpeting from Home Depot for the interior steps, and for the exterior steps I cut some Waterhog outdoor mats. I used double sided Scotch outdoor tape on both. Going on two years now, and still look good.

DW bought 3 outdoor step treads from Bed Bath and Beyond (first 2 on the page) made by 3M. They were the correct width, I had to cut 8" off the end to match the steps, with an interference fit into the carpeting at each end. They are non-skid backing and have the rough surface that removes dust and dirt from your shoe soles. They are not glued-down just lying there,unmoving. When they get dirty or are holding loose dirt, they may be picked up and shaken outside and/or washed off with a hose.

I bought the step and landing rugs from camping world. They come with velcro as well as snaps that are attached to the mats and the other half of the snap you screw into the step. You can use both methods of attachment or just one. I like using both as they stay in place and don't wrinkle up. They work great and the DW just machine washes them when they get dirty. We have had them for at least four years and they look like new. I don't like the idea of anything that isn't firmly attached because they can slip off the step and send you sailing. By the way, they also make a matching set of interior rugs that go with the step and landing rugs. It is a two piece set and includes an area rug as well as a runner.
