I have a 4 door refer with an icemaker in my Voyage. It makes ice just fine when I'm hooked up. When I turn it on and try to use the water in the tank----and with the water pump on----it does nothing. Am I doing something wrong or is that just the nature of the beast?

The ice maker requires 120vac to run. It will not work off of 12vdc. The heater to break the ice in the mold is 120v and so is the timer motor to run the ice maker. If you run your generator while not connected to shore power it will work, otherwise it will start to produce ice the next time you connect to shore power.

We can attest that Jim speaks the truth.

We learned this lesson on the road a couple of weeks ago. While underway, the fridge was running on propane and we had the water pump on, thinking we had a jump start on the ice. Instead, when we got to the CG, we had a cold fridge and one solid block of ice in the icemaker. Next time, we'll run the genset or just wait til we connect to shore power. We have a healthy supply of ice packed in the cooler. And, the icemaker is usually pumping out ice by breakfast. We don't really like running with propane on anyway.

Another lesson learned.

Some motorhomes, like our '04 Allegro Bus, have two outlets behind the fridge. The second outlet is powered via the inverter and the ice maker gets plugged into that one so that it can make ice when driving. I've heard of a few owners who found that their ice maker wasn't plugged into the right outlet.

I think next time, I'll just wait and use my Edgestar icemaker when I get to where I'm going. It pops out the first load in about 11 minutes and fills the box quickly. A simple solution. I will check for another inverter plug tho.
Thanks
Bruce
