Noseeums in Florida
Presently camping in Bradenton FL, south of Tampa. Cannot sit outside at dusk / evenning without being bit by these noseeums. Deet somewhat helpful, but still have a bite or two. Seems the season for them is when anyone is outside? Are these miges over all of Florida? Suggestions other that heading back North?

They are in the Keys too.
I use Buzz Away which does not contain DEET which is effective but no good on your skin. We usually go in right before sunset and then come out about a hour later and they are gone.

I live in Northwest Florida, near Pensacola, and believe that those pesky critters are not a problem around here. You need to be selective of campgrounds, though, because mosquitoes can be a problem, depending on location and time of year. Right now, I can safely enjoy sunsets free from blood-sucking insects.

Run into little gnats around here and I use an outdoor fan blowing on us to keep them and the blood suckers away.

They don't seem to be a problem here in central Florida, but we are away from the water.

West coast BAD
EAST COAST _____GOOD
Sister/BIL live in Parish (Ellenton/Brandenton Area)........4 acres so we just park next to house when visiting
Sister had back surgery so we parked longer than normal......by March we told them 'See Ya cause we just couldn't take the Noseeums'
Went to the East Coast and it was Lovely.
On shore breeze..........no insects/noseeums/no flying pestering ------LOVELY

Sit inside. They usually come out just after sunset and last about an hour. Take the cocktail party indoors for an hour, then back to the campfire. Lifemember's suggestion about an outdoor fan is good too. The breeze from a fan will keep them away if it is concentrated enough.

We had a wonderful campsite in Key Largo in Jan '15. Hadn't seen noseem's before. Wow did we learn a lesson - noseem's = move on now!! Like I said, campsite was beautiful and on the water. Sandflies are horrible little critters.

Fan on high is really the only thing that helps. As a resident the goal is to stay in for the hours around sunset unless it's breezy. Always a pest in Halloween night, we usually have 3 fans going.

Noseeums Repellent
A few years back while sitting outside at a campground in Orlando area, a fellow camper from Windsor, Ontario, started spraying our legs to stop being bitten by noseeums. It worked. We all asked what he was spraying. He said it is Listerine mouth wash. He said he goes to the Dollar Store and buys it. Well this stuff did work. Try it.

Then there's that Zika virus, and cockroaches, and oppressive humidity and heat...
I don't like Florida.

Smear on Avon Skin So Soft Bath Oil (original). It's worked reasonably well for me for a long time. Doesn't repel skeeters though.
The little boogers can't fly in wind so a strong fan might help. Also they don't fly high; we used to enjoy the sunset up on a three-story-high observation tower to get away from them.

I've heard Bounce drier sheets are supposed to help. Never tried it though.
