oil and filtor for onan gas generator

Does anyone use a Fram or other brand oil filter and automotive oil in their generators instead of the expensive Onan products? I was told by NAPA I could use a Fram 3600 filter and any 30 weight oil in my Onan Marquis 5500 5.5 BGMFA26105H. Any coments would be welcome. Thanks, Roger

We learned in high performance engines for race cars to stay away from Fram filters. NAPA are made by WIX and so for are the best filters available. I think that 15W-40 is great oil especially since summer is coming with high temps. On that generator (see owners manual below) Onan recommends 15W-40 from temps of 10* to 100*+. the 10w-30 is great oil but is only recommended up to outside temps of 80* for that generator.

The owners manual is here

NAPA 7398 filter when I didn't have a spare Onan filter on hand and the appropriate grade of Amsoil for temperture range of the enviroment the generator is operating in.
