Old rvs

Just curious to know what is the oldest RV you have seen out on the road? With good maintenance how long can you keep an old RV in service?

The oldest ones I've seen are the towables. Mostly Airstream types that have been restored. If your talking motorized, I've seen stuff from the 60's and maybe the fifties, but almost always restored. You can keep just about anything going if you have the time, money and skills. I do enjoy seeing the old restored rigs, and also the homemade one's. Some real craftsmanship is on display if you check out youtube.

If you have the time. money and drive, you can keep them on the road forever. Look at all the old cars in Havana Cuba. Some of them look like they're brand new.

If talking about motorhomes, the oldest ones I somewhat commonly see are the 1970's GMC motorhomes. I typically see one on the road somewhere about once per year.

Maybe not the oldest but I bought a 1976 GMC motor home in 1987 maintained it for the 30 years that I owned it .We used it year round and just loved it and it rode like a Cadillac with the torsion bar front and air suspension rear. It was easy to keep in repair with the 70’s technology and parts were inexpensive compared to the diesel I now have. I could fix anything on it unlike the diesel we now have. I sold it a little more then a year ago for $20,000 not too bad considering l bought it for $22,000 in 1987. It was a real hard decision to buy the roomy current rig and part with it but I figured it was time to buy the pusher before I got too old to drive it . In my opinion the GMC was the best choice of that error.

I see the GMC ones from the mid -70s every few months or so. Oldest one I've seen looked like a bus from the 1930s chugging along to the north rim of the Grand Canyon. It was beautiful and obviously had been the recipient of cubic money spent on it.

We pull a 78 Excel TT that does everything we want. Everything works including the 78 Elixer 120 volt/gas refer! We have over 15,000 miles pulling it in 4 years.

The so called "Canned Ham Trailers" have a Rally in Petaluma, CA once in a while, maybe once a year. The GMC owners have a Rally in Santa Rosa, CA also once in a while, maybe once a year.

The local RV Parks are are all full right now due to the October files so probably no gatherings for a while.
