Old tubeTv
My unit has an old analog TV which I will be removing. As I no longer require this relic. It is located in the dash and when i remove it will make a hole where some valuable storage space could be utilized.
I am sure there are a lot of people who have done the same thing. I would like some suggestions as I am quite handy with wood and I could make something nice.
But I want it to be functional and would welcome any Ideas of how to use this space. Nothing like making something than finding out it is not quite right.
If you have pictures of mods or any Ideas please feel free to suggest.
Thank you

Where did the "this thread is worthless without pictures" emoticon go?

Here's what we did when we removed the front tv and installed a 37" LCD in place of the love seat.

Very nice but mine is in the dash. If it was in any other place I would not have a problem.

If you can post pictures some of the irv2 interior designers can help you out. The good thing is that those tube TVs were heavy and very well mounted. It should be pretty simple to come up with something nice for an LCD screen.

No I don't want to replace it with a tv.I have already done this in another area. Just want to fill the hole with something useful.

Here's mine ... open shelves with lips at edge to prevent stuff from falling out. CD/Receiver plus 12vdc power point at top. Holds sunglasses/binoculars/pens/pencils/chapstick/etc.

Now that is what I'm looking for. Would you have changed anything in your design now that you have used it?
Looks great.

No photos of actual one but if you search our posts for projects you will find what we did in our cc.
Reason is we did similar for a friends southwind so you can use those photos for guide.
What we did was to build up from solid. oak a new cover or door. You also can use plywood too.
Then using ball bearing full extension drawer slides build a drawer unit that the newly built panel is attached to.
Mount a led panel with 12 volt power to the panel and the drawer stores your dvds.
Dvd player can go under tv or overhead.
Or leave plank and build inside to store things that you want out of sight but handy like gps wallet or other mbs

I installed a swing arm mount and left the space empty. I place hard drives full of movies in the empty space behind the LCD

Which brings up an associated question -
What do you do with the old TV after you remove it?

Thanks! Not really ...I would have liked the shelves to be a bit deeper to accommodate a magazine but that wasn't possible without relocating a defroster duct that is behind it. It actually works great and eliminated about 50 lb of worthless TV.
