On your marks. Get set...

Well, here we go!

The day I thought would never get here is here... our house just sold and we're officially on the hunt for our new-to-us RV!

Is this a great time to be alive or what?

We're going to start by touring the local inventory here in Las Vegas first, but it's really just to start getting some hands-on experience with the scope and scale of different models we've been ogling online for over a year.

There aren't any top contenders from our list actually in Vegas, so we're planning out a few road trips to go see some of our favorites. There are at least 3 in Lake Havasu City, which is really close, but then we'll venture on to the Phoenix area and eventually over to SoCal to where the bulk of our list is waiting for us.

Wish me luck, I'm gonna need all the help I can get

Good luck! That is one nice thing about Southern California... RV dealers all over the place.

After a about 2000 hours of research, I've become a firm believer in buying your third coach first... so this is what we narrowed our search to:
  • 2000-2008 Newmar, Tiffin, Monaco, Beaver, Country Coach, Holiday Rambler - not necessarily in that order.
  • 40' min / 45' max with TAG
  • Cherry or Walnut interior. Maple is a maybe; oak is definitely not.
  • At least 400HP, preferably closer to 500HP.
  • $150k budget, including any repairs / improvements I'd have to make, like tires or servicing, etc.
After that, it's really all about what floorplan knocks our socks off. Oddly enough, my DW doesn't really care for 4-slide models - for her, they have too much empty wasted space for just the two of us and aren't worth the money or the maintenance.

We've already toured a 2009 Dynasty and a 2008 Tiffin Allegro - we didn't fall in love with either one. We're touring a 2001 Monaco Executive on Tuesday, and since it's local to us it's definitely a top contender. But there's an HR Navigator and a Beaver Marquis Emerald my wife loves the pictures of, so unless we get some kind of screaming deal on the Executive we'll be making at least two road trips

Excellent! My wife has been retired for about 6 years now, but I don't think I'm going to completely retire. I love my job, I just don't want to do it 5 days a week anymore. If I can get them to approve a 2-day part-time schedule that would be perfect. Otherwise I'll be exercising other options.

Good luck on the hunt, and happy, happy retirement!

One of our top picks is in SoCal and the other is in Lake Havasu City. It took a while for us to narrow it down to those three, and most of what we cut off the list came from SoCal. So if one of these three don't work out, yeah... I'm betting there will be a lot more road trips to California

Oh heck, keep on going up to Eugene, Or.

There are a couple of two slide 42' Country Coaches listed for prices below your budget and certainly the listed prices are negotiable.
