Onan 1000 Gen.

I have an Onam 1000 diesal generator with 950 hours. I have services as listed in the book except for cleaning the spark arrester ---No eazy accesses -and adjusting the valves. All filters have been changed per the book.
What is the most important service to be completed? How many hours can I expect from this 2111 (under normal conditions) generator?..
Thanks

Probably the most important services is the Oil & Oil Filter Change, Air Filter, and Fuel Filter. Chances are doing these items alone could result in very long life, in excess of 5000 hours.

This is an Onan 10,000, right? Not "1000". I have 2000 hours on my Onan 7500 diesel and it still runs like a clock. Routine oil and filter changes, including fuel & air filters is the attention it gets.

Our Onan 10QD just turned 3000 hours when I had to have the thermostat and temp sensor replaced when it kept shutting down. The tech said its not unusual for them to go 10K hours with proper maintenance. During the repair they also found a belt that was failing and a broken belt tensioner bolt. While I agree that oil and filters are the main ingredient, it also requires a careful inspection of other componets. Items such as slip rings and brushes should be inspected and the cooling system kept in top shape. Most of all I think you need to use it frequently.
