Onan 10HDCAA quiet diesel stalling

Stalls after 10-20 minutes under load.

With no load, it ran for 2 hours until it was turned off.

No fault codes present. Did the 3 "stops" in 10 seconds on the stop/start switch.

Checked auto start and stop - both set to MANUAL

All fittings are tight and dry so not drawing air. Return fuel line had a tiny crack right at the clamp so replaced it.

Began by replacing the fuel filter. Then, the fuel line from filter to the supply pump (was partially collapsed). Next, the supply pump. Finally, ran a temporary separate fuel line from supply pump into the fill tube on the fuel tank, to by-pass both the existing fuel line and pick up tube. Tank 3/4 full.

After each attempt, primed the supply pump for a full minute using the start/stop switch.

Air filter appears to be clean.

What am I missing?

If your 10HDCAA is like our 12.5HDCAB ? there is a water pump/alternator belt on the inside/backside of the unit. It gets lose w/age and slips under load, the engine gets a little warm and shuts down.

It's a pain to take the housing off, but an inexpensive DIY fix(new belt).

Thanks for your reply. Did you get any sort of trouble code which pointed to your fix?

Does it start right back up after it dies or do you have to crank excessively? Or do you have to wait for a while before it starts?

When you say it quits under a load, what is the actual load you are putting on it?

It will start right back up and then repeat the cycle. No excessive cranking nor need to wait for a cool down.

Two roof air conditioners.

Tried it on just the fan setting on the two air conditioners and the gen ran for an hour, until I shut if off.

Yesterday to rule out the air filter, ran the above test with NO filter at all.
