Sound to me like the plug has bad connection. Electricity OK on shore power? Then it could be the female plug coming from genset.

You could open up the receptacle box and see if the wires on it are connected tight.

Of course, do this with the generator off.

It sounds like the voltage regulator:

Since the the VR is expensive you should check all your connections and use the Flight Systems trouble shooting guide.

How many hours are on it? Could be brushes, the plug, or the receptacle.

Some have said to hold the start button for a few seconds after its running, to excite the windings.

Worth a try.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

I'm not a genny expert but I would guess that it's the voltage regulator.

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

onan 5500 marquis

Check the breaker... today I found my breaker was having issues. I flipped it 3/4 of way -power, then when fully flipped on-no power. I then proceeded to hold it at a certain position and had power as soon as I went a bit either way the power would go away.
So I figured a new breaker is needed. For mine it cost 35 bucks.

Worth a try!

Mine has 1400+ hours on it. Not knowing the history I replaced the brushes, they had about 90% remaining.
