So Mr. RV "Mechanic" showed up today. I knew I was in trouble when he drove up in a mini van with a magnetic sign on the side with a bunch of mediocre tools in the back. 15 minutes later and $180 he says he hasn't a clue and the gen has to come out which he can't do at my location. A complete waist of time and money as I knew about as much as he.
When I get a chance I'm going to take some grounds off and give a good cleaning along with some other connections as mentioned earlier. If that doesn't work I'll Wast until I return to my home base in a couple of weeks and have my service center look into it.

Am I reading you correctly - for 15 minutes he charged $180. I guess the "old if I can't fix it you don't pay doesn't work for that guy. Need to put that one on a list of who NOT to call.

That's just obscene.

I really think I would have refused payment, then called the cops if he became belligerent. 20 bucks to cover the cost of his gas maybe, but that's stretching it.

I really should have asked him to leave after surveying his mode of transportation and the poor quality tools that he had but sometimes when your desperate you make poor decisions.
On another note I did get a chance to clean the grounds and still nothing. I only get the quick flash on the start switch saying that the gen is overheated. I'm really starting to think this is a bad temp sensor.

I am a little late on this but I have a 7500. The Operators manual I have is quite informative My manual is for HDKAJ, HDKAK generator sets.

First thing I would do is remove the Spark Arrestor Cleanout plug and try to start it.

Second I would check the trouble shooting fault codes as indicated in the manual and then refer to the table.

In general for Engine Cranks But does not start

a Replace Fuse F3
b check fuel and prime per manual
c check for leaks and especially around the fuel filter
d Check engine air filter and remove blockage.

Do you have a manual??

At least I have a Honda 2000 to keep the batteries charged and fans running.
Here are a few places where you can great Onan Generator service. Maybe a quick phone call to one of them will provide you with an idea or two.

Sure hope you had a good time at Bike Week in Daytona Beach. I did except for being too hot the day we were there.

This is a diesel, no spark arrestor and the engine does not crank. It does show a code when you press to start ( one flash) which says the gen is overheated. I do have a manual, and I have checked the fuses however when I read it last night it says there's three, I only found two. When I get a chance I'll take another look.

Really good info here, I should have called the Cummins Orlando location as I would have gotten a professional mechanic instead of the "handyman" who came out. Not sure if I want to spend anymore money at this time for someone to come out and take a look and just may wait until I get home.
Oh, by the way Bike Week from a vendors perspective was terrible. Many think it was half the crowd of last year. Good weather in the rest of the country and ridiculous high hotel rates seem to be the blame.

Will do. I always hate when people start a post like this and never repost as to what the outcome was.
Right now I Have an appointment with a Cummins service center in Bristol Pa. April 2. It's near where I live. I was hoping Cummins of Orlando had road service for gens but they do not. I talked to a tec today back in Pa who said it could have thrown a fan belt and if that's the case the motor will not crank. I still might find someone local here in Orlando who actually knows something if I don't it's going to have to wait until I get back home.

Where are you in Orlando that you don't want to drive to Cummins? I had them work on mine last year and they did good work at a fair price.

If you are on the west side, Independence RV on Route 50 services Onan, but if it requires dropping the genset, like on my Journey, they will refer you to Cummins who have the proper equipment to do that.

Good luck with it.
