onan diesel generator hours

Considering an 2001 Winnebago Ultimate Advantage with a little over 40,000 miles but the generator has 836 hours. My concern are the generator hours as the seem a little high. Whats the normal hours a year considered? I've read they need to be run at least 2 hours a month. That would be about 336 for 14 years for the minimum. Is 836 high for a 2001? Assuming an Onan is maintained how many hours is a normal life?
Thanks!

doesnt seem high compared to age of the coach - some use theirs way more often, especially if alot of drycamping - I think you'll find this genset to be fine, probably just broke in!

The genset hours are not high at all. My '03 coach with 100k has just over 2k hours on the genset.

I hear some ridiculous numbers on the life of an Onan. The Onan techs say that their genset that are run on EMS & Fire equipment see over 20k hours. It's all about the maintenance.

You can expect 7500 to 12,500 trouble free hours if service is performed regularly

Seems low to me, my 1998 has about 3200 hours. I runs all the time the coach is moving, running AC, basement Freezer, Ref and Coffee pot. If I drive 6 hours the generator will run approximately 30 to 45 minutes longer than drive time. Before unhooking power and until everything is setup at the new location.

There was one person that posted a picture of his hour meter, showed over 25,000 hours and still running fine.
The engines are made to run many, many hours with no problems. Ours 12.5 Onan is a constant speed (1800 rpm) and has a 3 cyl Kubota diesel. Those are used in commercial skid loaders and run 8+ hrs a day for years with just oil/filter/coolant checks and changes.

I just hit 100 hours on my 2014 and that is in the first 6 months. I run the generator all the time, esp to crank the house ACs up while driving in the summer. I'll easily have 800 hours in 4 years or less.

I asked Cummins what the life expectancy of an Onan diesel generator was. I was told 65,000 hours was not an unrealistic expectation if it's property serviced as required.

We just got our coach 3 months ago, it had 45,000 miles, the genny had 282 hours. Given all of the above, I am going to be less hesitant to run it.

I went to factory school on the gas Onans. The design life of the gas is ten thousand hours. The diesel should last much longer. To answer your question, that is NOT a lot of hours. We had many customers who used their coach's for motorcycle racing events and never had hookups. Many sports fans never have hookups and several thousand hours on their Onan's.
