Onan Generator shuts off - 3 flashes

Generator shuts down after about 2 minutes. The light gives 3 flashes. What is this code?

it probably gives more than three flashes... it should be a pause then more flashes to give the multi digit code...


the obvious questions - is it propane or gas or diesel > which model ?
have more than 1/4 tank fuel ?

From the Onan manual:

Three blinks indicates a service fault. Press Stop once to cause the two-digit, second-level fault code to blink. (Pressing Stop again will stop the blinking.) The two-digit code consists of 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 blinks, a brief pause, and then 1 to 9 blinks. The first set of blinks represents the tens digit and the second set of blinks the units digit of the fault code number. For example, Fault Code No. 36 appears as: blink-blink-blink—pause—blink-blink-blink-blink-blink-blink— long pause—

Pull the generator out and pop the side cover off. Then take the 3 #10 hex head bolts that hold the radiator water tank off and slide it out

Reach in and grave the big wire loom and pop it off. Then pop it back on and try starting the generator

Chances are that can fix the issue

Mine is a 12.5 kw which does this from time to time
