Onan HDKAJ Diesel generator shutdown - Error 19

My 7.5 HDKAJ Diesel generator shutdown. It will not even try to turn over right now. The light blinks 3 times and the error code is 19. Manual say to bring to the shop. The shop can't see me for another 3 weeks. I have replaced the fuel filter as I read that could be the issue but that didn't change anything.

1. Do I have to "reset" the generator for it to try and start again since it doesn't even turn over now? Disconnect and reconnect power?

2. Any ideas on what the error 19 could be?

Thanks for any help.

Can you post your genset's SPEC number in the model number?
There is no "reset" that you can do...

Error 19 can be multi-faceted and most always involves the engine speed governor OR a failure of the governor circuit in the main control board. If your unit is now failing to even try to start then you may just have a pinched/chafed wire in the governor harness or the connector between the control board and the governor has come apart or loosened. If the controller sees a dead short or completely open circuit between itself and the governor you can also obtain an error 19. If you have enough access to remove the top, 1-side and front cover you should be able to access the governor; The governor is a rather large "box" that sits atop the engine on the same side as the oil filter, can't miss it. Once you gain access make sure that the wiring harness leading to the governor is still connected. Seperate the 2 halves at the connector and reconnect them again to make sure they are making good contact.

Try starting the unit again.

Keep us posted.

I think 94-Newmar pretty well covered it. There is no reset you can do, nor is there any required to try it again. The code is stored and can be recalled at any time, but it won't inhibit anything either.

While a fuel supply shortage can trigger a 19, it is more likely a governor problem as 94-Newmar described.
