Onan oil filter wrench
I have been searching for a onan oil filter wrench to fit an onan 122-0800 filter. I can't seem to find this. Any ideas? thanks

I bought a strap type to remove my Onan oil filter. BYW, my Quiet Diesel 7.5kW Onan is powered by a Kubota engine.

Onan used both Kubota & Isuzu depending on size and year. My '03 12.5 KW is an Isuzu.

Take the replacement filter to Walmart, Harbor Freight or any auto parts store and match it up. A strap wrench works for me.

After you get it off, you might want to consider using a longer filter for replacement. That's what I've done and now I can remove mine by hand.
No wrench needed.

I agree.
They look wimpy but sure get a grip on the filter.
Recommend anyone changing filters to own one.

In our DSDP we had a Power Tech 8.0 Gen set, it had the Kubota engine as does our present Onan 12.5 KW one. In fact I think they used the same 18 hp Kubota in both of the diesel generators we've had.

If you would like a wrench, what I would do is after I purchase the filter I would go to the oil filter wrench section and test fit to see if I could one that fits.
Personally I use a filter strap. I also use it on oil, coolant and fuel filters.

I could not get filter pliers on the filter due to only a small amount of the filter is exposed. I had to get the correct Onan wrench. Very easy to get on and off now.
It looks like Onan wrench 420-0559 fits your filter.

An Onan branded wrench? Sheesh! Onan doesn't even make filters, nor does Kubota or the other engines Onan use in their gensets. So why do I need an Onan wrench?
Oil filters come in various standard sizes and wrenches for them are available in many parts and tools stores. There are several styles, e.g. the end cap type for a ratchet, the pliers type, the strap type, and so on. Each has their place.
I find the pliers type works fine on my Onan 7500 with Kubota engine. But then, I don't use Onan brand filters either. AC Delco, Wix/NAPA, etc. do just fine.
