Opened awning while driving I-75
Ok, so we're driving down I-75 on a windy day and our awning partially pops open. We pull over on the side of the road, climb on top of our MH and wire tie it together. My question to you, more veteran RVers is, what would have been a safer move?

Sounds like a reasonable thing to do to me. Just be careful on that roof - they get real slick if damp or if they have mildew and algae on them.

I used a ladder and duct tape. I would have been on the roof if I did not have a ladder.

Best thing to do so it doesn't happen again is to install an awning lock.

This has happened to me twice with two different types of awnings. I finally went and got some 10" velcro straps and I velcro them tight to the top rail system up by the roof when I take down and we are traveling Depending on your awning - you could maybe do the same. The key is protectring against the problem in the frist place.

I've had the Velcro straps on mine for years I have bought multiple sets for people in our group.

Was it a strong side wind on the drivers side? That usually causes a suction on the passenger side which will unfurl the awning if the inner spring has loosened. Had it happen to me a couple yrs. ago going across OK. After having it re-tightened, all has been good since.

No. I have installed this awning lock on my RV. It only attaches to one end of the awning. You just use your awning pull rod, to unhook the lock and give it a twist. Then use your automatic or pull down the awning. One person can do it alone.

We use plastic ties and then just snip them off when we put the awning out

That double stick tape doesn't look particularly stout to me. Instead of spending $40 plus shipping on that (and have it fall off), just do what I do: Wrap abut 6" of electrical tape around the existing awning support locks. Costs almost nothing, never fails.
