oshkosh versus freightliner?

1995 Winnebago Luxor DP with Oshkosh chassis versus 1997 Monaco Dynasty with Freightliner Chassis. Both 8.3 cummins and 6 speed allison. Price the same. Does the chassis difference carry enough weight to swing the decision towards one or the other? Thanks

The fleetwood was clean and well taken care of. The transmission shifting was a problem and access to the generator was impossible. Since we intend to keep the MH for a while we would rather spend more money in an attempt to get something we can maintain and have good performance such as afforded with the 8.3 diesel. Had the transmission issue not appeared I was ready to buy it considering the price was fair, but but we don't want to wrestle with a questionable transmission. Thanks

Yeah, Freightliner acquired the RV division of Oshkosh in 1996. My '96 Airstream on a Freightliner X-Line chassis has an Oshkosh steering wheel and a Freightliner dashboard. So i see both logos anytime I'm driving it. Actually, the X-Line chassis was originally a John Deere chassis before Oshkosh acquired the RV division of Deere.

I bet the chassis of both rigs are the same.

Good luck!

The 1997 Monaco Dynasty has the Roadmaster Chassis. It has eight outboard air bags (an air bag directly in front of and behind each wheel. This offers a very stable ride, very little sway and tipping, and very firm handling on the road. Also, the entire coach is a semi-monocoque design, all steel welded together from chassis to roof. It's a very heavy, stable, solid motor coach.

Jim the owner says his 1997 Monaco Dynasty is on a Freightliner chassis not a Roadmaster. Is that possible or is his knowledge faulty? He seems knowledgeable. Lives not too far from Elkhart IN where, he says, it was built, took it there and got a new refrigerator. ??? Thanks

The '97 Monaco Dynasty was built on the same chassis that the new Dynasty is built on - The Roadmaster Chassis. Monaco bought the Roadmaster Chassis from Chrysler Corp. back in the '80s. To date, the Monaco Dynasty, Executive and Signature are still built using that same chassis.

Roadmaster Chassis

I think I will concentrate my search on a Monaco so will end up with the roadmaster chassis. Thanks for the information.
