OTD awning questions

My OTD awning stopped working, and when I tried to work on it, I discovered it had to be removed from the MH to access the hardware. So on the way home, I stopped by a dealer, and their technician said it was an old Marquee with an external motor, and you basically had to destroy the end cap to access the motor. I decided to wait and see what others had to say. On Carefree's site, I found a motor replacement procedure for a discontinued FREEDOM awning that looks exactly like mine, so I emailed CarefreeofColorado and asked for verification and information. You guessed it; I received no reply.

I have managed to get it to work, basically by jarring it with a dead-blow hammer (sounds real smart, huh?).

A couple questions:

1. If I remove it from the MH, can I remove the end caps without destroying them? I will clean-up the motor and see if that helps. It runs now, but seems slow and under load.

2. Is there a source for acrylic fabric that will match my original, other than COC? It takes so little time to respond to an email. They're probably too busy to supply new fabric, too. Mine's stretched a little, and the front end does not close completely.

Any feedback will be appreciated.
