Parking Brake Won't Release

My hydraulic autopark parking brake will not release when selector lever is moved from the park position. I have already replaced the pressure switch, and have tried bleeding off the presure by disconnecting the tubing, but no luck. I am stuck in a Wal-Mart parking lot. Please Help.

Sorry, I put that as a tag. The coach is a 98 National Tropical 6350 with a 7.4 L, on a P-30 chasis. I have since learned that the hydraulic pressure releases the brake on the driveshaft. Also the parking brake light on the dash does not go off when shift lever is moved from the park position. Thanks for your interest.

There is a forum member that goes by the handle of "oldusedbear" who is an expert on autopark problems. You might try him with a PM.

I had the same problem twice. The first time the tank that holds the oil for the brake cracked and the oil ran out. No oil and the brake stays on. The tank is between the driveshaft and floor. However in your case an additional check to make. Shift through all gears and see if the brake releases or the light goes off on the gearshift. If the brake releases in ANY position it is the likely the adjustment of the switch on the gearshift. As an temp fix ,so you can drive, if the brake will release in any position you can put a pair of vise grip pliers on the shaft from the cylinder to the drum and that will prevent it from going on. BE CAREFULL, if you do this you will have NO parking brake in any mode and chocks will be a must. This is a temp fix to get the coach to a service facility. It is a very good system but is designed so if it fails the brake is on. A final note. if you start 'cooking' brake shoes the cables the run to the drum are sticking and are not releasing the brake fully. Trust me, they will look good but they stick just enough to hold the shoes lightly against the drum. If this does not work the pump may have failed. I assume you have a good engine battery?
