Parking in Wash. DC

My family and I are in DC sightseeing and are looking for a place to park a 30 ft motorhome. Any ideas or suggestions?

Cherry Hill Park in College Park, MD is very nice.

Thanks. We heard about that campground. It does seem get nice. I am talking about parking for the day downtown DC. We were considering using the Park and Ride at a metro station but they will not allow a vehicle this size. I am looking for a lot downtown or some other options.

Pretty sure that RVs above a certain size are not allowed in DC, period.

I would be crazy to drive a 30ft MH in DC, even if it was allowed. Find a campground in MD or VA and ride the Metro in.

I am looking at Cherry Hill for spring break. Is it a very busy time of year?

I was just there in May, and I found it a problem just parking my toad in DC, I did not see any thing that would accommodate a 30 ft MH.

I wouldn't even THINK of driving a coach of any size in DC. They're too big for even the out lying metro stations.

I too vote for Cherry Hill. Very nice place... and I would imagine that it is busy during spring break but I'm sure they'd be happy to talk to you about it if you gave them a call. Nice people. The only RV resort I can remember being at that offered an "orientation" session every evening to offer guests help on what to see, do and how to get there.

We actually drove the motorhome downtown today. It was a little tight is some spots but for the most part, it drove very smoothly. We even passed police multiple times. It didn't seem to be an issue. I think most of the car drivers were okay because there are so many tour buses and metro buses downtown, we sort of blended in. In fact, at one traffic light, a child pointed to us and told his mother, "let's take the bus." We all got a laugh out of that. I think we will try to find a way to get to the metro. We do not have a toad with us for this trip. We have also considered a rental car, but like an earlier post mentioned, that would be a hastle too. Most of what we want to show the family is on the National Mall anyway. Thanks for all of the input.

The city bus to the metro comes right into the campground.

Doesn't the Smithsonian still have RV parking? Granted it has been ten years or so since I've been there.

I checked, and the limit is apparently 40 feet, so you should be OK. I had made a mental note of the issue years ago, probably because ours is over 44 feet.

Thanks for the info about the Smithsonian. When we drove by I did not see any possible place to park. But we will check today and pass it on.

The Smithsonian museums actually don't have any parking of their own, but there is (very limited) on-street parking around them. The "RV parking" you're thinking of might be the spaces used by tour buses?
