Hello all,
We live in Chicago and want to stage/park our RV in November in a warm weather climate.
This way, in January, we can drive to it in the car and use it for January and February.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

My thought is that if you drive here to FL in November you won't be going back to Chicago

I always disliked Florida ever since being in the Navy and stationed in May Port in 1967. It's hot, rains allot and they have big bugs there. Well the years pass and in 2004 we were lent a home in Port Orange, Fl. for bike week, well I fell in love with the area, the people, everything stays green and the heat isn't an issue with AC plus the riding is awesome compared to LI NY. We bought that home and my DW can't get me back but once a year to see my son.
DW can fly up several times a year... honey i'll miss you.

A couple of years ago we needed to park our RV in the south, we live up north, and it rained more than any other time in history down south, while we had a mild dry winter up here. The RV was much worse for wear than it would have been up here. I like having the RV plugged in all winter and in the driveway so I can move it during the occasional warm spell. Just my 0.02 cents.

We drive down in Late October and stay a week or two, then leave in storage until we return the end of December to retrieve for the winter months.

We had been storing in Orlando, go to Disney for a week or two and fly home. Orlando has plenty of flights when we want to return. We also have driven home and back down again

Everyone has different needs and favorites. The Allstays ap is my beginning point. The end point never happens.
GasBuddy ap finds where to fuel up. I don't do truck stops. The reasons are in other threads.

Just pick a spot you think might work for you and Google storage places. You'll need to do a search on places.

Keep in mind that in January/February the states close to Chicago will still have snow and cold. You might have to go down to Tennessee to start getting nicer weather in January.

A lot of snowbirders from the northern states just keep a watch on a good three-day window of weather and start their drive. Keep the RV winterized and carry jugs of water to get you thru the 2 or 3 days until you get consistently above 35 deg. Some just stay on a WalMart lot for the night or a truck stop if RV parks aren't open. Others, park the RV at a motel for a night or two.

I would think storing it in another state would be a lot of unnecessary driving back and forth if you plan to use it in your area after the winter months. Then you'd have to drive it back south to store and return north until time to leave.

Take the 2 or 3 days and just go from your home. It would be a lot easier.

There is a place called Big Toy Storage near Tampa (813) 986-8697
I've used another place south of Tampa in Palmetto FL, N. Manatee RV Storage
(941) 721-7695

Both are fenced with good access.
