The 5 Star Tuning device appears to be the way to go (as evidenced by some respondents) without resorting to exotic and expensive engine modifications. Or an even more expensive solution, trading in this otherwise great RV (2019 Newmar Baystar) for a DP.
My thoughts anyway.
I just completed a trip up through the mountains of PA and while there were times I was roaring up the hills at 4000rpm I was passing diesel RV’s who were chugging up the hill at 2000, while saving myself a couple hundred thousand dollars.

As everybody is aware, the stock V-10 makes it’s best power at high RPM. Not sure what all the 5 Star tune does for engine power, but the very first thing I noticed however was that it also changes transmission shift strategy (in a very good way). If I had a gasser that I was happy with except for performance, I’d at least fork over the $ to give the 5Star Tune a shot before shelling out the big $$$ for a DP. It just takes a few minutes to reprogram things and try it out. You can always have the option to go back to stock and/or go shopping for a DP. Just my .02.

When we last bought, we weren't really thinking DP, either, but after some comparisons to what the same buck would buy, we felt it was a no brainer. One thing is for sure and we, like many that take this plunge, aren't about to ever go back and as far as I'm concerned, we've bought out last one.

For us, it's not just the power. We have a 3124 with the full wall slide, and it's only like 32ft. We're making month long trips and driving across coast to coast, and our floor plan is getting cramped. This just adds some fuel to the flames!

Thanks for the feedback. If we knew we'd keep it long term, I'd also dig into a banks system, and adding on actual bolt-ons to the V10.

Appreciate your thoughts. They're exactly in line with mine. We've been doing several 4-7k mile journeys across the states, and it's pretty rough screaming up some of these hills full tilt. I do understand these make their power up higher, but still don't like throttling the thing. The other thing is there's a notable decrease in power when you start getting 5k+ feet it seems too, making things worse!

In a nutshell, here's what the 5 Star tuner does: The ideal air/fuel ratio is 14.7 to 1 which is called the stoichiometric air/fuel ratio, the ratio at which every fuel molecule has an air molecule to combine with, no more, no less. This yields Best Economy and the V-10 pretty much stays at this ratio no matter what. However, Best Power requires an air/fuel ratio down around 13.0 to 1 so the 5 Star tuner supplies this ratio when your right foot asks for it, then returns to 14.7 to 1 when Best Power isn't required. The 13.0 to 1 ratio can also handle a different spark advance curve and together this is how the 5 Star tuner wakes up the V-10 to make much more torque. With more torque, transmission shift points can be changed to eliminate the need for the V-10 to scream at 4500 RPM to make power. Power = Torque x RPM and they are interchangeable - just like 6 x 9 = 54, so also does 9 x 6 = 54. Therefore, horsepower with the 5 Star tuner is made by developing more torque rather than just more RPM as it is in the stock V-10. And by having more torque throughout the RPM range, the V-10 also makes more maximum Horsepower.
