2006 Tropical

NadaGuides shows this models pricing to be between $75K & $90K for resale. $114K is too high. The Trop-I-Cal is the entry level diesel made by National RV, but is comparable to other brands higher end models. National has a good reputation for quality.

IMHO, you should pay around $80K to $85K for this coach. Offer the Low Average Retail listed by NadaGuides of $75K and let them ome back with an offer.

Ask for the service records on the coach, if they have them. If you do buy the Trop-I-Cal, look for the National Owners Club in your area. You can find them on the FMCA website as they are all chapters of FMCA.

Good luck and....................

Happy Trails!

2006 Tropical

jgaylor,

Just saw the 'Prescott' in your email, so am guessing Prescott, AZ. If this is correct, if you buy the Trop-I-Cal you would qualify for membership in The Dolphins, the National RV owners club for the Western USA.

Send me a Private Message (PM) if you wish more details.

Thanks for the info

$75k was a good number, the coach is beautiful.

I did buy the tropical.

So here is some additional help I can use.

I have been rving since 1967 in all kinds of rv's. The biggest I has was a 31 ft gas class c, vehicle I am trading in is an 2006 Pleasureway Plateau Ts, 2.7 l mb turbo diesel.

I have never driven a diesel ousher, or any vehicle with air brakes.
The dealer is giving me a 3 hour pdi with driving instructions included.

Are their any publications for new diesel pusher owners that you know of?

Yes I do live in Prescott Arizona.

Go the the link I have provided. About half way down the page under the Play Video box you will see RV Confidence Course Chapters. Under the title are seven videos to watch. I think they might help you.

RV Driver Confidence Course

Best of luck with your new rig.

Jgaylor, I have one piece of advice for you on the PDI. Make them show you EVERYTHING and then you operate it yourself while there. I watched the guy demonstrate everything and didn't have enough sense to operate it myself so it didn't stay with me. There are so many systems to a Class A that overload kicked in eventually with me. Three hours goes by very quickly but I would not leave without having tested every system and understanding it all. Run air conditioners, check out the fridge by turning it on first and checking at the end (is it cooler?), run the stove and heaters, run the onboard water system (pump work? faucets not leak?) try out everything!

Some more suggestions:

- Carry a note book, take lots of notes.

- Carry a magic marker, make notes on or near items that can be marked on without detracting from the coach's appearance...like on our near fuel filters (where/what they are), in the engine compartment, etc.

- Find the GCWR. Your TRUE towing capacity is not 5,000# (even if that's what the paperwork says). The true towing capacity is the GCWR minus the weight of the tow vehicle when ready to tow, or the hitch capacity, which ever is lower.

- Get ALL maintenace and repair records.

- Check the dates on the tires.

- Don't let them hurry you...they will, this is old stuff to them.

Good luck!

I'd recommend getting a copy of your state's handbook for the Commercial Driving Licence test. If it's like the Washington one, it will have a detailed section on airbrakes, with system details, pre-tip test procedures, draining moisture out of the air tank, etc.

I'd never driven an air-brake rig when I went to work for our local transit agency, but the WADOT book gave me all I needed to know.

I'd also suggest taking a video camera along to the PDI and recording how things work.

2006 Tropical

Jerry,

Congrats on the purchase of the Tropical! If you paid the $75K you got a good deal! I think you will be happy with your rig.

I saw that you were given a link to an online driving course. That will help. After you are through with your PDI and get the dealer to fix ALL the items you find, find an open area to drive the Tropical around. A large parking lot is good, or some lightly used streets. Practice backing up using the side view mirrirs and the back up camera.

Join FMCA and The Dolphins, which is an FMCA Chapter. The Dolphins, as I may have mentioned, is the National RV owners club that covers Arizona, and the Western States. Several upcoming rallies. September to Newport Dunes (Newport Beach, CA), October to Chula Vista, CA, November to Pechanga RV & Casino, Temecula then the Dolphins Holiday Rally in Hemet at Golden Village Palms RV Resort.

You will have access to tons of info on your rig.

Again, congratulations!

Happy Trails!
