The stone should not cover more than about 50% of the shelf. Air needs to be able to circulate to get even heat.

The glaze is not something you want to be in your stove. Same goes for ceramic tiles. They are not made for an over. You have no idea what kind of chemicals they could release.
I read on some cooking forum to use unglazed terra cotta tiles only.
From personal experience I can tell you that they will crack.

If you find a store that sells Big Green Egg grills they will have pizza stones. While you are at it buy a Big Green Egg. You wont be sorry.

I bought one that fits in my convection oven and outdoor gas grill.

Pizza outside takes about 6 minutes. Placing the dough on parchment paper on the pizza peel makes for very easy in and out with no mess.
