Pls help!!

My wife recently purchased a 1995 Rexhall Aerbus (32FT. no sliders), and it runs great and all, however; everytime I plug it into a shore power, the plug smokes and sparks and it blows the fuse to the power outlet that I am plugging it into. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
John

Is the shore power recept wired correct?
Does this with more than one shore power pedestal?
What recept - 20a, 30a, 50a?
Works ok on generator power?

You may have burned contacts on the plug, a loose connection inside the plug, a broken wire in your power cord or shorted wire in the power cord. There could also be a short somewhere else in the RV, but if it's the plug itself that smokes and sparks, that would be the place to start.

Does it have a replacement plug on the cord? These can pull the wires loose I side of the plug if not wired correctly.

If so, that the cover off the plug and see if all the wires on screwed on tightly and not touching bare wire to another post.

I'd just about bet the shore power receptacle (on the home/plug in) is wired incorrectly. Invest in a plug polarity checker/and/or no-touch voltage checker to determine.

Best of luck.

Hey all,
The wall receptacle is a 20A receptacle. It worked on the previous motorhome that used the receptacle. The cord from the RV is plugged into an adaptor which goes from 30a to 15a. Everything else in the coach works great, no blown fuses or anything. On generator power all works good. I guess we will start with the plug from the RV itself and see if there are any wires crossing inside??
Thanks for all the responses, we really do appreciate it!! I will keep you posted.

Thanks,
John

So, apparently the cord that goes from the coach and plugs into the wall socket was bad. Replaced it and is charging well... Thank you for all of your help and responses!!!
