While at Lowe's look at the Cobalt 1.5hp 3gal HotDog compressor at $109.00. The P-C is only .6hp, and the reviews on the Kobalt report a much faster recharge rate than the P-C, and that it seems to be easier to carry(?). I have the Porter-Cable and it works well, but if I were buying another for carrying in the motorhome, I think I would consider the Cobalt.

Bought one online the day the ad came out, picked it up yesterday. Aired up the tires on one of the cars last night, hopefully it will handle the 120-130 psi I need on the motorhome!

I have the Porter and it will be a little slow at 130 but will get there ... a little patience is all that's needed. I have no problems at 110 and my Porter is 5 years old. So far, the only issue I had was the crummy drain plug ... replaced it with a brass threaded plug.

I have a many year old craftsman 6 gallon pancake compressor like the Porter that I bought used. I have added a regulator to have two ports controlled, just because.

Worked great to inflate my previous front tires to 115 psi quite quickly for about 7 years.

Stapled replacement carpet with the compressor.

Using it now to successfully repaint my kitchen cabinet doors and drawers coupled with a $9 Harbor Freight 1.5mm needle gun spraying reduced acrylic latex Gloss paint. (Yah, I know what the labels say. Too small a compressor. Don't use this gun with latex. Don't reduce the acrylic latex. Don't use Gloss paint on cabinets.)

I have also used the compressor also to spray a primer coat, and color coat on the roof cap sides of the motor home successfully. (The compressor recharged as I dismounted the scaffolding to move it 7 feet further down the side of the rig.) Enough air to do small area or short burst paint spraying successfully.

Have had a Porter-Cable pancake for about 10 years, has worked great. Used it to run nail gun on three diff buildings.

Gotta ask, what's wrong with the engine compressor?

If your engine compressor cuts out at 120 psi, it is difficult or nearly impossible to air a 22.5 tire from 105 psi to 115 psi, I learned.

I just used my PC today and it will not air my tires above 100 # It equalizes out with the tank even though the gauge goes to 150# ?? I have the Viair 400 P-RV coming from Amazon on Tuesday.

Bill, I just aired my steering tires yesterday to #125 psi. When airing to this volume I always discharge the air kicking on the compressor to get this level of psi output. If yours cuts out something in your regulator is amiss?

I, too have had that little P-C compressor for several years and it does a great job for what it was intended for and that's mostly using tools like nailers and staplers. With a paint spray gun - not enough cfm for any of mine. It will also do tires very well though it will take some time at over, say, 100 psig. I also used it to blow out the 5ers water lines this year instead of dragging my usual 100 feet of hose out to hook on to my big fixed one. Gotta say that it could have been better as that little 6 gallon compressor just does not have the volume either in maintaining volume (cfm) and pressure (35-45 psig) as it runs continuously for however long you have it hooked up once the initial charge is gone. At 99 bucks, it is a good buy IMO though and is what I paid from Home Depot, shipped to my home.

The Lowe's store in our town, had a shelf full yesterday....
