Power Converter
I have a 07 bounder 38p. My progressive dynamics PD9260c started over charging the batteries. I’m looking for any advice for a replacement converter for my coach or if I should replace with the same model. The Converter has been changed once before about 7 years ago

I have the same Progressive Dynamics unit as yours, and have had excellent service from the unit. If I were to replace mine I would use the same version again.
The only time mine has ever overcharged is when one of the coach batteries started to fail and the converter.charger was attempting to charge the failing battery which resulted in overcharging the good batteries. I replaced the batteries, programed the unit for the new type batteries, and it has worked like a champ ever since.

It is rare for that type of charger to run amuck and overcharge, so I would not be afraid to buy another.

Did you test with a Multimeter?

These intelligent multiphase chargers vary the voltage according to several factors; battery condition, impedance, load, battery type, and if the charger senses sulfation of one or more batteries.
The one I have is one of the first of that series and must programed by the user for the type of battery being used: flooded cell batteries, AGM, Lithium Iron, or Gell cells each require a different profile. For instance if they are programed for AGM batteries and those are replaced with flooded cell type, the charger will charge at the previously prescribed rate/profile and if it "senses" what fits a sulfation profile it will up the voltage to attempt to desulfate the battery.
If one or more batteries has a corroded terminal the charger reads that as sulfation and kicks into overdrive, and will overcharge and evaporate the electrolyte of the good batteries.
If one battery of the bank develops an internal fault, the same thing will happen as the charger raises the voltage in an attempt to fix the problem.
As for which type of battery with which to replace the old ones, I would recommend AGM, as they are very cost effective and generally never corrode the cable ends or the terminals.
Programming instructions are included in the manual for the charger I installed. I also added the optional dongle to mine so I can see at a glance how it is performing.

Phil,
Did you contact Progressive Dynamics? They may be able to help. They are great people to work with. They also sell often reconditioned units or they may ofter to repair yours. They are made here still. Marshal Mi if I recall.

Where/How are you measuring 17V DC????
Converter output at FULL Rated Load is 14.6V DC
Have you measured the 120V AC Input?
Have you disconnected battery POS cable from converter and measured converter DC Output?
Have you measured battery voltage when disconnected from converter?
17V DC will damage those new batteries....surprised you haven't been experiencing blown RV Lights/damaged circuit boards etc (If you really have 17V DC on system)

I have had the best luck with "PowerMax" converters. Ours is plugged into shore power all the time when we are not camping or traveling. I have gotten away from progressive dynamics, as it is hit or miss if the will last longer than 3 years. Other brands are about the same. We have had this last one in our own MH for more that 5 rears now, and seems to be holding up fine.

I need to change my converter and was wondering what is the best amp to buy. I am full time and having issues with 12v side not charging. My converter now is 45amp but installed in '97

The popular size seems to be 55 amps.
GoPower makes a 4 stage 55 amp model.
Look it up in Amazon
