Power Gear slide Alignment

I am trying to adjust / align a powerglide slide and am having difficulty.

I found the slide adjustment proceedure on the powergearus.com site for the slide in my Pace arrow but am having dificulty sliding the gear over so that I can move the gear to rack engagement a couple of teeth.

Attached is the pdf for the slide alighnment. Step 2 in the proceedure is where I am having problems. The shaft will only slide maybe an 1/8" and will go not further, regardless of how hard I pry, hammer, etc. I sprayed plenty of WD-40 on the shafts and bearings and still it won't budge.

Are there any tricks to this? Am I missing something.

The trailing edge slide measures about 1/2" further out than the front slide and it causes a gap on the trailing edge when the slide is fully retracted. I want to get a good seal on the slide before we head south for the winter.

We also have a Pace Arrow, is there a clip pin on the inside of the rail which would keep the drive shaft from moving? Or a pin at the motor? I'll have to look at mine tomorrow.

My front slide was out about 2 inches. The rear was in tight.I slide the back out about two inches then closed the slide and the front came in tight
