Power Gear Slide Mechanism

I just purchased a 2000 Airstream Land Yacht XL 355 which has two slides. Since I have never had slides before I need some advice. They are electric motor only models and the instructions state to operate either in our out until the motor stops. I have open and closed both slides and in neither one the motor stops. I don't want to destroy the inside slide surround by holding the out button down and see what happens, the slide in the bedroom the side cabinet started to separate when I didn't let go of the slide switch soon enough when the slide was going out. Are there adjustable limit switches somewhere that controls when the motors shutdown depending on the location of the slide or what causes the motor to shut down when the slide is in the proper location when either in or out.

Just take your finger off the button when it's in or out. Mine does not have a auto cut off. You will know very soon as to when the slides are fully in or out.

My front slide will just stop.

On the rear slide the motor keeps running and you can hear the gear jumping. We've learned to anticipate the travel distance and take our finger off the button.

FYI we did have a front motor fail due to having a rug under the slide while trying to bring it in. It stopped and did nothing. Put in a new motor and all was good. I kept the old motor, disassembled and put back together and it worked, don't know really what was wrong but I have a spare.

I have been taking my finger off the buttons when I believe the slides are either fully extended or fully in. Per my manual the motor should shut off when they are in either of those positions with my finger still on the switch. I will have to take my controller cover off and see if there is an adjustment I can make. On the outside of the cover there is wording to a min/max setting but no hole for adjustment.

Welcome to iRV2.

It's always best to start your own post , if your problem isn't exactly the same as the original poster's .
In your case the best spot would be in the " Newmar owners" section of the forums.
That aside the slide drive motor / gear drive assembly , is on the underside of the floor below the slide , visible with the basement door open.
Also in coaches of our vintage , Newmar used the Dutch Star name on both gas chassis and diesel pushers , important to say what you have when posting.

There may have been a self re-setting Circuit Breaker in your wiring , that tripped when the slide bound up on the rug , that C/B could have taken several mins. to cool and reset . Other issues with the slide not stopping could be traced to controller adjustment or if the circuit depends on the C/B tripping to prevent damage , a defective C/B.

I have a large file on Power Gear slide systems ( parts and repair ), that I downloaded from their site , before they were bought up by Lippert. Sorry I can't attach it here , if can't find it on the Lippert site , PM me your e mail and I'll forward it.
I'll try attaching it here , but it wouldn't go through the last time I tried.
No, go , too large a file by .7 kb.
