Power Seat

National RV '01 Tropical (Later Dolphin LX) With 8-way power seat I had a problem some time ago, maybe after I removed the seat redoing the floor. The problem is in the seat controller. The controller is in constant forward motion. I have to disconnect the wires to stop it before it blow a 30A fuse.

I took the switch unit apart, looks like a Chinese Puzzle inside, you have to have all the pieces laying just right and them snap it all together without of the part moving. Have done that enough times to get pretty good at ti. Everything works until I snap the trim shroud onto it. When I give it that last little snap, it's back malfunction mode.

It looks like this.

Anybody had any dealing with the insides of this switch that might enlighten me a little?

Could it something as simple as reversing the wires?

Will go out and try that? You never know..., or at least I never know!

Harold

Harold, do you have the same switch on the other chair? If so, mark or take a picture of the wiring and try it on the side you have a problem with. This will tell you if it is mis-wiring or a bad switch. Let us know what you find.

I only have the one power seat.

The wiring is correct, seat worked great before I messed with it. And I can get it to work properly just before replacing the bezel.

It seams to act different every time I put it together.

Now, with the switch snapped together without the bezel, and hanging loose, it stays activated, going back, but I can hold just a little froward pressure on the joystick lever and it will stop, more forward pressure and it moves forward. Let it go, and it goes back.

I think it has to be in the Bird's Nest of contacts inside the switch. There are eight contacts that just lay there and float until the lever plate is snapped into place.

Current plan is to get is where I want it and then turn it off. (I installed an on/ off switch while working on it). Maybe I should put a reverse direction switch on it.

If I take it apart again, I will take a photo of it. Looks kinda like swastika, put together with crooked contacts, and the center cross part moves them all around to make the seat go forward, back, up, and down. Maybe on of the contact got bent.

Maybe there could be a short to ground where the harness connect to the motor. Will check that out next, if I can get to it with removing the seat.

Harold, it is probably the switch. The pressure of installing it and the bezel to the seat is causing it to flex enough to malfunction. You need a new switch, and when you install it do not over tighten it to the frame.
