Power Watchdog 50 amp surge protector

Has anyone tried the power watchdog 50 amp hardwire power surge protector yet. I have read about the surge protector, but there's no reviews on this surge protector, that I can find. I know it shows you can replace module, do all the surge protectors, that has been spiked several times might be damage? Thanks for your help!!

The only potential drawback with this device is that it relies on YOU to set the voltage monitoring limits and for your phone to be within Bluetooth range to receive warnings. According to the product function chart, the PWD50 unit itself does not automatically shutoff power in the case of a fault or over/under voltage event, so YOU are the monitor. If you aren't watching or are out of range, the condition continues until you return. For example, if your a/c's are running, they could be damaged by low or high voltage. On the plus side, it the voltage is just at the edge of the limit you have set, everything keeps on working (for awhile, anyway).

The other concern is whether you choose suitable voltage limits or not. Most of us rely on the design engineers to set reasonable limits to protect our equipment. Are you knowledgeable enough to do better?

I should have mention, it's the PWD50-EPO-H, not the standard PWD50, which I wouldn't even look at that one, I'll edit my post. www.hughesautoformers.com/product/ped50-epo-h/

I had a bad experience with my Hughes 30A protector. I bought the unit just before I put my RV in storage, so I didn't use it until the next spring., After less than 10 days use, the unit stopped connecting via bluetooth, so monitoring was not possible. I emailed Hughes twice, and ended up calling them twice to find out what to do with the unit, and to see if it was repairable. The emails were ignored, no answer at all. The phone calls were answered by a live person who promised to have the support person for that product call. Not a word since from them. I replaced the unit, but not with a Hughes product. Got a Southwire Surge Guard.

Fool me once . . .

Thanks for your info.. how is the Southwire surge guard working for you? I bought my motorhome last August, and on the way home, I stopped at a huge campground, I burnt up my converter. that was close to $1000. mistake. Don't know what happen, but don't want that, to happen again. Hope you got the best, I'm going to look into the Southwire. Thanks again..

Have been away and haven't used it yet. Leaving for a month-long western trip in about 3 weeks and will be using it then.

Our coach was equipped with a SurgeGuard (now Southwire) 40250, which is a combo transfer switch, power monitor and surge suppressor, all hardwired. Worked fine for several years and still doing its job when we sold the coach. If I was buying a new one, though, I would seriously consider a Progressive Industries unit instead. They seem more quite and reportedly have beter reliability. I would also have the power monitor & surge suppressor unit separate the the ATS. Both hardwired, but separate so they could be individually replaced if needed.

I have been using the Power Watchdog 50 Amp EPO (Emergency Power Off) for over 6 months now. It is the pedestal version, not the hardwired version, although they are the same device, except for the wires and 50 amp connectors attached to the pedestal version.

The voltage thresholds are preset with the EPO version, and the power is shut off automatically if it has any of the usual wiring problems (open neutral, neutral reversed, etc...).

It is the only surge protector that I could find that comes with a bluetooth phone app to see the data. And in June, I was able to integrate it with my RV Whisper monitoring system so now I get emails and text messages when I lose shore power. I really like getting text message alert, because it warns me when I first lose shore power so I can react quickly before my RV starts getting hot and the dog gets overheated.

We have been using the PWD (50A EPO Version) for about a month. I chose it because it integrates with the RVWhisper system. Seems to work very well.
