Like most of you said don't do it. In the rare event of a power outage running a extension cord will just fine. No risk to myself or others. So I say Thank You for all the sensible responses.

Please do not ever make a dead man's extension cord. This is an extension cord with a male connector on each end. A very dangerous thing to have around...

power out up my way that's exactly what we use;; kick off main breaker plug into a 3000 watt gen set and plug into wall outlet and at least u have lite and Tv till the hydro company gets u up and running
warning this is nothing just anyone should attempt as it has some dangers

I've done this for years as backup power, but you need to know what you are doing. My generator is 7000 watts 220V so I can run just about anything I want in my house.
