Pre-purchase inspection not mechanical?

So, I've just found out the "inspector" I have engaged to inspect the RV I want to purchase does not check the engine or drivetrain. I want the report on the coach condition and the condition of frig and generator and water systems, but it seems to me it is only half the job. He is highly recommended, so it isn't like he is a fly-by-night guy. Now, I feel stuck. How do I get the MH to a mechanic or find a mechanic that will go to the dealership? I am in Phoenix and will appreciate all suggestions.

It is an Itasca Suncruiser 38R with Workhorse 8.1 L /Allison

If it were me, I would find a local shop that works on GM diesel drive trains that will agree to do the inspection for a specified price. Ask the dealer/owner to take the MH to the shop for the inspection. If the dealer/owner refuses to take the MH to the shop for the inspection, do not walk away from the deal. RUN! I had my RV serviced by these guys in Tucson.


I would not hesitate to go to them for service or a pre-buy inspection. Obviously Tucson is too far from Phoenix to take your MH but I would give them a call and ask if they can recommend someone in Phoenix. Good luck.

When I last bought I had two separate inspections. The house and rv systems by a rv shop. The driveline / chassis by an automotive shop that worked on motorhomes.

Most "RV Inspectors" do not do the chassis.
They will do the systems on the coach, check the
operation of all facets,
You will need to take a motor driven RV to either a
diesel truck shop or a qualified shop for a gasser.

Make sure if it a diesel rig, that the shop understands
air systems and can check all air operations such as
brakes, levelers, air bags. Most people forget about
the air dryer filter.
