Prevost 1993 to 1997
I'm looking at a Prevost mid-ninties. Detroit60/150k miles. Anyone have words of wisdom as to not buying this brand. Thanks, John

The brand depending on the converter are great. Think though, that slide outs are non-existent in that era and if you ever want or need to sell, finding a buyer will be much more difficult for the price.

Had a salesman tell me that sooner or later slides will fail. And if your in the middle of nowhere, what do you do.

That sounds like a salesman...
Anything can fail, and anything can be repaired/replaced. That is part of the territory when owning one of these things. No different than owning another home. Things happen.
Personally, I would not own a coach without slides. The extra room when parked is well worth it.

Engines and transmissions can fail too, and I would be a whole lot more concerned about that than with slides!

Welcome to the forum! I agree, sounds like a sales pitch! I would not a coach without slides.

I just bought a Fleetwood with two slides...its amazing the room two big slides can create. And like said above, resale will be much better.

On our previous coach, the slide motor failed with one slide out. Usually there is a way to manually crank in a slide. That is what we did.
Had to wait to get home before we could use them again however.
Slide failure would not be near the top of my worry list.

Did you ever notice most Rv sales stores don't have prevost I would think a late 90's would still be a very nice coach. One other thing did you notice that if you like gassers they are the best if you like DPs they are they best if you don't like slides you don't have any.

If the floor plan works for you, the coach should be a great vehicle to motor around on our highways with a Prevost chassis carrying you.
Some converters have better reputations than others. Get feedback from Prevost owners.
Be sure to get the wiring and plumbing schematics and components list since that will be the most difficult to trouble shoot on a Custom built rig.
You may have some destination and route limitations depending on the length of the rig.
Frankly, we have toured a lot of Prevost conversions both new and used. The chassis is a want to have, but the house part seemed more showy and less practical that the non-slide rig we have. We are happier with our Gillig Bus chassis which is not as impressive as the Prevost.
It will be more expensive to repair because of its over built chassis. But there are bus repair shops in every major city since there are lots of buses on the road of varying ages.

Well after much thought we've decided that a coach without slides is not the way we want to go. Just not enough room.
Now, we've looked at a 05 Monaco Dynasty and a 05
Dutch Star. Same miles, around 45k. Prices, $139k/$124k. So what's the better choice, if both are in the same condition. Of course that's not in the real world. Things alwaays go wrong. Murphy's Law. Thanks for all the information. John

Wow! That's a tough call! Both excellent choices!
OK. The main difference between the two choices is the chassis. Prevost is a semi-monocoque chassis. Monaco Dynasty is also a semi-monocoque chassis. Dutch Star is not. For some that does make a difference.
Monaco Dynasty's Roadmaster RR10S chassis has 10 small outboard air bags. The result is a very controlled ride, with very little sway.
Dutch Star is either a Spartan chassis or a Freightliner chassis. On these chassis the air bags are quite large and are placed inboard. I understand that this results in a softer ride with a bit more sway.
So if the chassis matters to you, that's a starting point. The pieces that are used to build the house are fairly common to either brand. So, I think you need to decide which floor plan you like the best.
