Does anyone know of any chemical cleaners for BLACK WATER TANKS that is compatible W/ plastic piping ??? I drain my tank and yet I still get a 1/2 full reading. I tried the ice cube trick but it didn't seem to help.
Any suggestions ???

Powdered borax - as in good, old 40 mule team borax. Put a couple of cups down the toilet followed by 5-10 gallons of water and drive around.

I wouldn't worry too much about what the sensors read as the wire type are notorious for doing what yours are doing. Depending on your tank size, you should be able to go 7 days without a problem anyway.

You'll quickly learn what the 'burp' means - that's when you dump. Give it about 2-3 weeks and you won't even look at the gauges.

Do a web search for geo method of tank cleaning. Tank sensors are notorious for failing. Dump about once a week and you should be OK unless no one has learned how to properly use an RV toilet.

A good septic system system enzyme cleaner will work - I like Roebic 57 but Rid Ex works too. Fill the waste tank with fresh water and pour in a couple cupfuls(via toilet or sink) and let it sit for 4-5 days or longer, then flush it out. The hungry little microbes will eat all the slime in the tank. But it will build up again as you use it.

For a longer term solution, I suggest external tank sensors such as The Garnet See-Level gauge. Or, some people have had good results with the Horst Probles in place of their existing in-tank sensors.

Put in some dish washer soap in it and drive to the next campground then dump. Do this a few times and if it don't work don't look at the gauge as half them don't work any way.

As you can see from the responses, there are really a lot of things that will work to fix the sensors temporarily. If you do a search of this forum you will find a lot of discussions about the same subject - it is a universal issue. I find that all the stated methods work, especially when used during a move from one place to another. You will also find, however, that as long as you are using the internal sensors they will fail again, probably sooner than later. You will soon learn to listen for the toilet burp and you will know how long it takes for the grey to fill. Or you can buy the external sensors - they work well.

I filled my blackwater tank with warm soapy water using Dawn dish washing detergent. I drove about 40 miles and dumped the tank at the dump station and for the first time the tank shows empty.
