Programs for Diesel HP improvement

Hello, we have an 2011 Avanti 2806 having a Cummins ISB6.7 rated as 200 HP with an Allison 1000 6-speed transmission. I have noticed that it is pedal to the floor sometimes going up long steep hills. I was recently advised by a friend that I could purchase a program to boost HP. Have any of you done this?
Thank you,
Stinsons

Before you start boosting your HP/torque of you motor look at the specs. of your Allison 1000 transmission to see what HP/Torque it's rated to handle. Could get expensive if you over power it.

Unfortunately you are SOL due to having the Allison 1000 in your coach.

Banks Power Pack Kit would have been your best choice but they require that you have either the Allison 2000 or 3000 to handle the increased HP and torque.

You could always trade up!

Oh my gosh, so I'm out of luck with that idea and will just have to live with it. Now wondering if I can really tow 5,000# max (Jeep) four on the ground.

Ty,
Our Forza has the 2100 Allison which limits us to towing 5000#. Fortunately we were in the market to trade our Tahoe [5400#] for our present Cadillac SRX with the previous Fleetwood V-10 which was also rated to only tow 5000#. The 5000# rating for the Forza was within spec for us.

Look on the bright side, you have a legitimate reason to tell the wife were getting a new vehicle [toad]!!!! Couldn't help that, do understand your pain as we learned the hard way too. Lucky we intended to downsize.

hp

slow down and smell the roses. problem is thats a lot of weight for a little hp. most manufacters put the least engine they can in these things to keep the cost down. you dont want to reprogram this motor cause it will cause you alot of grief in the long run. take it easy down shift if you have to and just drive. the motor will last alot longer. im sure that isnt what you want to hear but unless you want to replace a motor when it detonates stay away from tuners.

Okay, someone advised me not to use the shifter and just let the transmission do its job - but I think you are right when the pedal is to the floor I should down shift - 18,000# and 200 HP. the 2012 model has 220 HP How did they get that additional 20 HP?

I climb hills between 1800 - 2000 rpm. I look ahead at the hill and watch the tach. When my rpm drops down to about 1500 I downshift and try to maintain the rpm in the desired range. I try to avoid Wide Open Throttle (WOT).

You need to determine what your true tow rating is...it might not be 5,000:

Tow rating is the lower of:

1. Coach's hitch rating.

2. Coach tow rating.

3. Chassis tow rating (sometimes different than the coach's).

4. The difference in weight between the coach's GCWR and the coach's actual weight when ready to tow.

the 6.7 is capable of a lot more and still reliable. Transmissions can be built, the 1000 is what chevy runs behind the duramax and it puts out a lot more than 200 hp and a lot more tq than you have now (mine was 360/650). Issue is the weight of the rv and the duty cycle you would ask of it. I have pulled heavy with a duramax (26k total weight) and can tell you the 1000 will take a lot more than you think. If it does fail you probably would be gambling 7k for a built trans installed. Might have cooling issues on longer climbs also because it is designed for the output you have now.

Safe bet is leave it alone but honestly if it comes to that or a rv upgrade a built transmission is probably cheaper.

Looks like your Allison 1000 is good for 765 lbs. of torque.

Allison 1000 Specs & Ratios

You may want to look into this option. Works for me. Scroll down to the very bottom under Medium Duty/ 6.7 Cummins

Good luck!

I installed a MP-8 Power Play Module on my Cummins 350 HP while in Alaska back in 2012.

I used it for about the first 30 minutes of our trip back to the lower 48 and had to turn it off because of the error messages I was getting on my dash AND from the poor performance by the engine.

Ripped it off when the Banks Power Pack was installed by Banks and sold on eBay to someone else.

Do your due diligence on this product before spending the money. YMMV

Each situation may be different.
