I requested a rate quote from AARP Hartford several days ago while internet insurance shopping. They gave me the best quote, but when I tried to buy it, they said that they could not insure me. Said I would get an e-maail within 2 weeks telling me why. I believe it is because of a speeding ticket I received in Lake Providence, Louisiana 4 years, 11 months, three weeks ago. That is a little speed trap town that you can read about on the internet. It was too far away from home to contest the unfair ticket. Basically three speed changes in a 200 yard area, with difficult to see signs, and a city LEO ticketing every out of stater coming through. Watch out if driving through there! Progressive quoted me $900 annually, while Blue Sky quoted $600 for the same coverage.

I have had Blue Sky for almost 4 years with just minimal increases. Two months ago I had what I thought was a simple windshield replacement turn into some front cap repair work that I thought was pretty expensive for what was done. Blue Sky paid without a word to me plus I paid no deductible due to their vanishing deductible plan. Policy is to renew in Oct. though so holding my breath as to any increase.

I have had dealings with Progressive as a owner of a policy and as a victim of a policy holder. Based on the awful way I was treated I would never ever have Progressive Insurance. By the time all was settled they canceled my policy. Very unprofessional and unethical. Truly the worse company I have ever had to deal with.

I have Blue Sky. This is my second year. They raised my rates 40 % this year. I had a at fault accident was part of the reason. They were slow paying but in the end that cost them. Had water intrusion from a crack that needed to be fixed and they took their time approving the repair. Had to remove and rebuild the whole rear cap. Cost them $8000.
I got quotes from Progressive of over $5000 for a year. Blue Sky is $900 year

after 3 years with Blue Sky and no claims, accidents, or tickets, my annual premium went from $1215 to $2332. they told me "everybody's rates went up this year, lots of claims paid out" Switching to Allied $1021 Same coverages.

FWIW, story in the news yesterday said your credit score is more important than a DUI on your driving record as far as affecting your insurance premiums!

Crazy!

I priced Progressive (USAA) against
good Sam (Natl. General). Natl Gen. beat Progressive by hundreds of dollars.

Clarification: You must be a MEMBER, but don't have to be a specific AGE.
Things may have changed, But you had to be 50 years old or older to be a member of AARP and to get the best discount with Hartford you have to be a AARP Member. Been with them 19 years now.

Update to my post no. 17, I received my renewal for the year and only had an $80 increase. I certainly can't complain about Blue Sky.

"Very unprofessional and unethical." Characteristic of the ownership interest.

It must be hit & miss with Progressive. We've been with them for over 5yrs. and our premiums have actually gone down. And like phil57 had dealings with them because of another Progressive policy holder smacking my coach. Everything was taken care of like it should be. I've used their towing rider a couple times, once in the Yukon where I specifically said I wanted our coach to be trailered, not towed. They had no problem taking care of that. The truck had to come from Whitehorse 180 miles away because that's where the truck repair place was.. So the round trip for the truck & trailer was 360 miles. I'm glad I didn't have to pay that bill because of the $24 towing rider we have on our policy. I don't know why things would be so different between policy holders.
