Propane
Ran out of propane and plugged in 20 pounder but can not get hot water heater or furnace to restart? Rexall 34 any suggestions appreciated. Thanks
Connected a 20 to fill and not receiving any propane to stove or any appliance it seems.

Try purging the air out of the system by lighting your stove top.

If you turn on a burner to the stove and put a match to the burner dies the volume of air/gas blow out the match.... if so, I agree with the post above to purge out the air... in some cases I have to get the range working first and than cycle the water heater 2 or 3 times for it to finally light...
On the other hand if the filled cylinder has been lying on its side for a while, its possible that OPD valve in the tank has plugged... I stand the tank up, and gently tap the tank on a hard surface with the bottom banging on the asphalt... this tends to jar the valve back to its position... than I slowly turn the valve on to allow a small amount of gas to leave the cylinder and equalize the pressure in the line..
And if you have a two tank set up.. is your regulator valve positioned so that turned on to the tank you just installed?

How are you connecting the 20 lb tank to a MH tank ?
Do you have the correct fitting ( extend a stay ), or did you move the regulator to the small tank ?

If you have connected the 20# tank to the liquid fill port then it is likely that the pressure in the bottle will not overcome the spring loaded check valve inside the fill port.
If you don't have an extend a stay then you could unscrew the POL fitting out of the vapour port on your fixed tank and provided there is enough slack in the flexible pipe between the regulator and the pipework, you might be able to screw that into your bottle (POL is Left Hand thread). Works on my MH

Until OP explains HOW the propane cylinder was connected it is all guessing.
FYI....the OPD on propane cylinders stop liquid from going INTO cylinder but can NOT stop vapor from coming back out.............otherwise when filled no vapor discharge due to OPD being closed.

this is true opd = overfill prevention device all type 1 valves since 1998 have a excess flow built in so sometimes when connected to a empty system when valve is opened gas rushes in to fast stopping gas flow .flow is not always stopped 100% witch is why a bbq grill for example will not heat much (low flame) so open valve slow or like I do open and close 2-3 times

Yea your right guess I've been retired to long  fixed cyl's also but there are valves that do

Put the 20 into the house I am building and warmed it up and all going good now. Suspect not enough pressure in the tank sitting in the snow. Thanks all warm as toast now!
