Propane filler valve replacement

So, the propane filler valve on our MH is apparently defective. A proper seal cannot be made when trying to refill and liquid propane leaks out where the filling station's connector makes contact with the filler valve.

I found a replacement on Amazon described as for forklifts, but it looks the same and someone made a comment that they used on on their MH.

Here's my question: Other than starting with an empty propane tank, are there any other precautions that should be taken during the replacement process?

I did. bought a check valve off Ebay the same PN and manufacturer as the original - made sure the tank was empty, spun it off - a little gas-rated pipe dope and spun the new one on, filled it, soap tested for leaks. All good. Cost about $30.

If you want to go to extremes you could ground yourself to the LP tank to stop a possible static spark. Make sure you use the proper pipe dope or tape, you could call a propane filling station and see what they suggest.

You could use one of these until the tank is empty, or longer.

Our local propane gas company changes valves on tanks, so I'd probably just let them change mine if it ever came to that. They often don't even charge labor to do it if you buy the valve from them and your known as a good customer.

We have the same problem and are currently using the check valve posted by twinboat. We can not find a propane company in our area that will touch a motorhome. We did find a Ford deal that services RV's and has a service tech that is certified for propane repairs that will do the work but they are a long way from us. For now, the check valve is working just fine and at some point when the tank is empty, I plan to replace the valve myself. Chuck
