pump noise...

Hello everyone...

I have a 1992 fleetwood limited. When I start my rig there is a pump going and I located it and it look like a compressor of some sort . It runs for a while and then shuts off but always goes on and off.... What is this? Any ideas if it is going out or something or is this normal.. please advise.

Is this possibly the brake booster pump? With the key off, step on the brake. Does it sound the same?

Does a gasoline engine with manifold vacuum need a pump for a brake booster?

It is a air compressor. Either for a air horn or air suspension.
it sounds like you have a small leak in the air line. Just follow the hose and spray all connections until you find the leak.

i believe this is a air pump. It is for air horns or air suspension. Your brakes use the power steering pump (hydroboost) for the power brake.

When you say it runs and shuts off then you are saying that it has a clutch on the pump, is that correct? Are we sure we are not talking about the airconditioning compressor?

When I press on the brake peddle, I hear the pump run. When I don't press on the brake peddle I don't hear it. Now that I think about it, I don't think I even need to turn the key on at all. I'm not sure of what you are hearing is the same, but as others suggest, you should have someone press and listen at the engine area to try and locate the source of this sound.

this is the air pump for the airhorn. It should have a plastic 1/4 quarter in. hose that runs to the horns. About 60% of them are made by Hadley.
