I saw that too! They are reorganizing and will still be making batteries so hopefully the quality of their products will not suffer but may as they try to cut costs.

The reason cited for the financial trouble is that Walmart has for years, prior to 2010, used Exide to make the batteries that have the Walmart branding (Everstart ..?) and then switched to Johnson Controls a few years ago.

Here are a couple of pictures taken in 2008 of my batteries (Interstate U-2200's) that I put 4 oz of mineral oil in each cell in 2004. They were last cleaned at that time (2004). As you can see there is no corrosion even after 4 years of never cleaning or treating the connections. The batteries lasted 1 month short of 10 years and I only changed them then due to us heading out and not wanting trouble on the road. Also note that the hold downs are nylon straps so no distortion/damage to the case can occur.
For the "worry warts" out there: the red gas can is where I carry distilled water in case I need it.
