Question Question about this 1997 40' monaco dynasty

Is this a good brand for a motorhome? I looked at this motorhome and the owner had the cummnins engine running and the engine is under the back bed. Is this normal for the back bed room to shake when engine is running?

Price for motorhome 39500.00

Shake as in rattle and roll?

Or shake as in transmitted vibration to the closet doors, windows or whatever else is loose?

With diesel engine in the center of the north/south bed platform you will know it is running in this type rig.

If there are rattles, one can work to tighten things about to avoid the rattles of cabinetry, closet hangers, closet doors, window frames etc.

If the bedroom was jumping around then there likely is an engine problem.

The diesel engine only 60,000 miles on it the owner says. The owner is a 29 year old man that like to hot rod. He says it will go 70 mph up a steep mountain without any problems compared to a gas engine.

It might be able to do so, I know ours can under the right conditions.

Has the engine been modified? I put a Banks kit on ours as, while not the cheapest way to go, it was the safest for the engine/trans combo.

Wildbob, I would carefully look over the motorhome and have the owner verify that all functions are working; refrigerator cold, freezer makes ice, heater and A/C work, the water heater works, generator works. Take a test drive and see what you think. Since you seem to be new to this, you should take the RV to a dealer who will inspect the rig and give you a written report on problems. This should be a dealer you choose, not the owner. As to price, I cannot say.

any bodily fluids that have leaked on the pavement? Does it smoke- both engine and genny? Dynasty is a quality machine. I'd be more concerned about engine, transmission and generator- all the other stuff can be fixed. Does it have a DOA Norcold refer?

This is a very good brand for a motorhome. One of the best. Yes, it is normal for the bedroom to shake when the engine is running. Price sounds OK. It would be nice to find some more information about the mechanical maintenance history. Look it over carefully. Check the roof carefully for signs of leakages. Check the sidewalls for signs of delamination (bubbles in the sidewalls).

I'm new to Motorhomes and did own a travel trailer and got burned on it with water damage. I bought it from a homeowner and didn't know what to look for till it was to late. Bathtub leaked and damaged the floor. Is it better to buy from a Dealer over a Private owner?

This Monaco Dynasty does have a DOA Norcold refer and the ice maker is in the counter which I've have never saw before.

Thanks, Bob

Found rust bubbles under the chrome outside mirrors. Wonder what the price for replacement chrome brackets.

Thanks, Bob

I would need to see maintenance records or have the owner pay for a complete inspection of every thing to do with the engine, tranny, and genny. I have to ask myself why there are no records. You can buy a 25k headache too easy. Joe
