Question to HWH leveler owners

I am unable to find the HWH leveler manual that came with my pre-owned 1995 Fleetwood Flair 27, so I was wondering if any knowledgeable members in this forum can help me out with two questions:

(1) How exactly do you check the hydraulic fluid level at the reservoir? Do you screw the fill plug in ALL THE WAY and check? Or do you just place the fill plug on top WITHOUT screwing it in and check?

(2) When I wiped off the fluid prior to placing it in the reservoir, I noticed that the fluid has the consistency, color and odor VERY similar to Honda ATF-Z1 transmission fluid. Would it be okay to top it off with this fluid, if I can't somehow find the special HWH fluid anywhere in RV stores? Where exactly can I find this "special" fluid ??

Thanks in advance.

Lou - you can go to the HWH website at www.hwh.com and they have all the technical info you will need- click on the Customer Technical Service and you will see other links such as how to identify your system, service and operators manuals etc.- as far as the fluid goes you can use standard Dexron 3 in this system as well as the regular hwh hydraulic system oil and there is probably some other auto trans fluids that can be used but some of the newer ones have additives in them that may not be compatable with the rubber seals and o-rings in the system so I would would only use the Dexron or hydraulic oil that is made for this application - they mention this in the service manuals as well - the oil cap should be all the way down to get a correct reading and do not overfill the tank - check with all levers up and all slidouts in.
