OK. Here is my deliema. We have an 87 Allegro 33' MH with a 454 an 58K in miles. We just had the radiator flushed and pressure tested all was good. Will be calling the mechanic tomorrow about this also. This was our first extended trip (over 50 miles) 180 miles each way. With normal elevation changes (nothing big). I think the temp gauge on the dash is faulty, but what would cause the gauge to go to redline at 60 mph, with a normal load and drop to less than 1/2 at 30 mph. At one point we were in stop and go traffic on the freeway (accident) and the temp was great. After getting up to freeway speed it went to redline again. We will be replacing the gauge next week before next trip.

Only problem with the coach on first longer trip. Had a great camping trip to Battleground Lake State Park. Highly recommend.

I would look for a bad fan clutch.

#1, Air stil within the system...Turn on your heater also.
#2, As written...Bad clutch fan...Protect your radiator while removing.
#3, Severly retarded ignition timing at the higher RPMs.

Since the problem started after a radiator flush, air is probably the culprit. At higher RPMs, the water pump is spinning faster - if there is enough air in the system, it wouldn't push water so much as aerated water. Hence, poorer cooling at higher speeds.

Can't see what the fan would be to blame. If the fan isn't working, that usually presents the opposite symptoms (cool at higher speeds, hot at lower speeds).

I would also check the thermostat. It may have been removed during the flush and re-installed incorrectly.

At 60 MPH it wouldn't need a fan at all. It is a water flow problem like the others said. Park on a hill if you must when topping it off but get any air out of the system.
You should run the heater to rid of air also.
If the fan clutch was bad it would slowly overheat while parked or moving less than 25mph.

Thanks for the replies. I thought there might be air in the system and we were also thinking the thermostate may have an issue. Not sure about the fan clutch.

Gives me areas to ask about.
