Raising trusses

Looking at buying a place with a 40x60 pole barn /shop on it,trusses are at 12' high i need 13-14' down the center would like to be at least 12' wide, i have seen pictures of how somebody did what i want to do ,but cant find them did search on this forum and others but no luck..anybody here know what pics. im talkin about?

I haven't seen what you are asking for but I suspect You are going to need an engineer to redesign the trusses. As soon as you cut the truss, you change all the load points. Stepped trusses are made all the time, but they are designed for the step up.

Is there any possibility of digging the floor out 12" ?….. Bruce

Not easy to raise the roof, how about raising the whole building. Cut the L bolts between the plate and the floor (or foundation) then use jacks to raise the whole thing?? You can then use blocks or a 2 foot knee wall to fill the gap...

It appears you are driving a 45' bus, which is probably over 13' high. You need more height in order to walk on the roof of the coach... a minimum of 14' high if the trusses are open(no ceiling), but more like 18' high if there will be a ceiling inside. If your new door is an overhead, you need to allow an additional 2' ceiling height above the door opening... if using sliding barn doors you can ignore this point. Door should be at least 14' wide(it's a lot cheaper now than body shop repairs on your coach later). Rather than raising the roof trusses, it's probably easier, and cheaper to add on an additional 20' x 60' x 14-18' high on one side of the existing barn. My 2 cents.
