Range cover support

The range top cover that folds and raises (Corian) seems to be worn where it catches in slot/pin arrangement. Fell down yesterday, wiping out a pot of coffee. Anyone discover a fix for this poor desinn of a catch? Haven't been able to locate replacement part for the metal componet. Presently using a stick to prevent serious burns etc. Must be a good solution out there. Thanks in advance.

The covers are made by the manufacturer of the range. The coach manufacturer then bonds the solid surface material to it. I don't think they were designed for this kind of weight. I would rather have no metal cover but complete lift off solid surface covers that fit to the counter top.
