Rayzar Automatic antenna failures

I have read about the many failures of Winegard Rayzar Automatic antennas. Thinking about installing one but I am put off by these failures. On the other hand, one post that I read said they thought that the design has been changed and is now improved from the earlier design.

I would like to hear from those of you who have the Winegard Rayzar Automatic antennas in order to assess manufacture date vs failure history. When was your unit manufactured/installed. Have you had any failures?

Put one on in December of 2016. Failed in the first year. Replaced under warranty. Orginal and replacement both error during scanning more often than not and require a reset to recover. Reception is good. I think winegard has a new mount that raises it higher. Might be an improvement.

If I had a do over I would likely go with a fixed omni directional antenna. It's also hard to beat the crank up bat wing antenna - but determining pointing direction more difficult with the advent of digital broadcasting. Winegard has a new, and excellent, app that visually identifies the TV stations in your area. Makes antenna pointing easy.

Installed Razor a year and half ago. Very happy with the reception and and have had no problems. Based on my expedience a friend installed one a year ago and his has been trouble free also. Yes they did have problems early on, but they seemed to have fixed those.

I had actually logged in here to do research on reliable digital antennas when I saw your message. We have had two of the automatic Rayzars and both failed after very minimal use. The first one failed with an E03 error within a couple of months of installation so Winegard shipped a replacement unit. We have used the replacement maybe 5 times in the two years its been been installed since we primarily watch DirecTV via our Winegard Traveler.

Last week our Traveler croaked with the dreaded "AZ Motor Stalled" error message (which means the turret is dead and must be shipped to the Winegard factory for repair) so we fired up the Rayzar to have a little TV ...and got the dreaded E03 error message. Needless to say I'm a little crabby with Winegard products right now.

Any time you get that code double check the coax connection to the antenna and make it is good. No corrosion or looseness. That both sides have good connections, shield and center.
