rear end howl
I got my rv back from the service people and theyagree that the singing rear end is still singing the suggestion now is a new ring gear and pinion I decided to re shim the diff and try that it is a little better but looks to me that i should have gone all the way bit the bullet any 10 cents worth

I get a really loud howling noise from the back of our motorhome, but it is intermittent. Generally happens when DW (which gets motion sickness easily) is in the bedroom grabbing something while I'm driving and I softly steer left to right and cause the motorhome to slightly rock side to side.

Ha! I do that too!! Usually results in a punch in the neck upon her return though.

Your probably already know obtaining the exact clearances in a differential is one of the most tedious tasks a mechanic will undertake. I changed differential gears in my old Dodge CTD and took it to a shop that specializes in differential work on race cars so it would be "right"; and it was.
If the gears have worn to a particular "set" you might have to either live with it or replace both ring and pinions.

X2, you can not shim a gear set that have been run. Replace the set or turn up the radio but do no shim.

If you have air bags on the suspension ride height being out of spec can cause it also due to driveshaft angle.

That's what my mechanic did. Adjusted the height differential and it all but disappeared.
