Rear License Plate
What do you do with your rear license plate on your Class A when the covered bikes you are carrying completely block it from view? I'm thinking I'd want to attach it to the ladder somehow, but haven't found anything on-line that would make that an easy thing to do. Just wonder if anyone else sees this as an issue and what did you do about it? Looks like a trip to the hardware store to jury rig something is in my immediate future.

If you do move the plate don’t forget the license plate light. I think you’d have more chance of getting stopped for no light than an obstructed plate.

Thanks for your reply. I'm not on the road at night so am hoping that won't be an issue. I'm more concerned about toll road cameras not being able to to see the plate for billing purposes. I do pull a toad also. Is that plate sufficient for satisfying their need to identify me for that?

I’d be afraid to answer that both the MH and toad are on my ezpass account. I see so many plates obscured by bikes I never gave it any thought as to being a problem.

I use little "bungee loops" to hang my transporter plates on the RV I am delivering. You can buy a package of ten of them at Lowe's. They have a plastic ball on one end of the loop. Feed the loop through the hole of the plate, loop it around a ladder step (for example), up the front of the plate, and hook the loop end over the plastic ball.
Some transporters still use zip ties, but I'd say that most of us use the loops these days.
Here they are on Amazon - different lengths are available: https://smile.amazon.com/ABN-Inch-Ba...loop+with+ball

I had the same question last year so I asked a friend who is Lt. with a major police force in Colorado. His response was as long as your toad's plate is clearly visible it will not be a problem as they can get your ID from you toad plate while driving on the road.

When I hauled bikes on my ole class C (Toyota Dolphin micro-mini) I specifically mounted the bikes so it would block the rear license plate. Never had any problems.

That is good to know as the rear plate on the coach ( all three I have owned) is not easily visible while towing.

It is my understanding that the licenses plate must be unobstructed at all times (that is a ticketable offense). I moved our fifth wheel licenses plate to the rear of our swivel trailer.

According to the Illinois State Police they do not ticket any vehicle towing a vehicle, trailer or motorcycles with the rear license plate not being visible. If they did they would have to ticket every vehicle towing anything. Consider our 18 Wheelers; their rig is licensed but no one can see it when pulling a trailer.
As for any toll pass you would need to ask the toll authority. Personally I stay away from toll roads like the plague.

Semi trucks have their license plates mounted in front of the vehicle.

I just ignored problem - for around 75,000 miles. Never stopped - well OK one speeding ticket - but covered plate never an issue in any of the lower 48 and DC.
